Code Enforcement
Violations typically reported to Code Enforcement:
- Outdoor debris, junk, or trash.
- Substandard / non-compliance structures.
- Vehicles parked in front yards in residential zones, or an excessive number of vehicles that appear to be inoperable or unregistered.
- Over weight vehicles on restricted streets.
- Parking or storage of recreational vehicles, boats and utility trailers on city streets.
- Violation of standards for keeping animals in residential zones.
- Violation of standards for home occupations or professions.
- Violation of minimum fire, safety, and security standards for rental housing / Landlord tenant complaints.
- Violation of construction conditions established for a project (Example: exceeding allowable hours of operation or producing excessive noise).
- Nuisances.
- Fire Hazards.
- Construction/destruction without first obtaining permits.
- Dangerous buildings.
- Sign code violations.
- Graffiti.
- Fence codes.
- Sight obstructions.
- Dust control.
When appropriate, it is our goal to gain voluntary compliance in correcting a confirmed code violation. A written voluntary code compliance agreement may be used to detail the actions necessary to correct the violation.
In the event a voluntary compliance agreement is not appropriate or such procedures fail, the City of Sunnyside will initiate additional activities intended to abate the violation in accordance with Section 7.05.060 of the Sunnyside Municipal Code.
