City Attorney/Assistant City Manager
The City Attorney is the City's general legal counsel. He advises all elected and appointed officials and all Departments. He drafts or approves as to form all legislation that comes before City Council, reviews all contracts and represents the City in all civil litigation in court and before administrative agencies.
Mark Kunkler has served as City Attorney since 1992, and as City Attorney/Assistant City Manager since 2001. Prior to coming to Sunnyside, he spent four years with a Yakima firm that focused its practice on public sector law representing municipal employers in collective bargaining issues, municipal law and insurance defense.
Mark graduated from Central Washington University in 1980 with a degree in History. In 1984, he graduated from Pepperdine University School of Law. Mark was admitted to practice in the State of Washington in 1985.
